We made a lung/diaphragm model. The yellow balloon at the bottom of the bottle represents the diaphragm. The orange balloon represents the lung. When you "contract" the lung by pulling it down, it increases the volume in the bottle which lowers the air pressure inside the bottle. This allows air to flow into the orange balloon.
The picture at the left shows the lungs of a fetal pig. Also note the trachea and the larynx.
